thing is, this was spoken by a Christian. I love the sad irony of that verse. it's anti hypocritical.

ReplyDeleteThere's a writer that once identified the church as the last of Christ's "Three Great Humiliations" (the other two being the incarnation and the crucifiction). God was under no obligation to undertake any of the three, and they were dumbfoundingly humiliating experiences for him in the sense that they involved him abandoning so much of his power just so we could approach him, know him better.
ReplyDeleteGod wanted to spread the gospel through the church not for the sake of the Gospel but for the Church, who in the process of sharing Christ to others might learn more about him themselves. In choosing to do things this way, God subjected his message to the imperfections of his messengers... for the messengers' sakes, not for his own.
How strange. That we serve God as if we were doing him a favor, when in fact we give him nothing he didn't give us, and we give it to him sullied and broken.
When a child gives a sixpence-worth gift to his or her father (who has given her great riches!), he is sixpence none the richer for it, is he not?
How sad it is if the child gives the gift in a spirit of arrogance and condescension, as if he/she were doing a great service the father.
i couldn't have said it better. God chose imperfect individuals to teach His Gospel. And It did transform them.

Ah, but what a punishment for those who misuse the Gospel!

I suppose it's a matter of one's motivations. It's possible to misrepresent the gospel honestly, and then there are those who intentionally use it to manipulate and abuse people.
