To The Organization Called Anne Rice Philippines

A fellow blogger, and obviously an egotistic, self-righteous one, posted this article on his website.

I chanced upon a post in Maya’s blog and was caught by a name: Anne Rice.

Dear Maya, please forgive me for writing my opinion here. I agree with everyone out there that Anne Rice is the shit when it comes to writing, but I also believe that there are other writers out there who deserve more praise… much more praise.

Click, click and I was at their website. I know that we shouldn’t judge individuals right away, much more an organization, but, I read a few lines and was instantly LMAO.

Check it out:

Lo & behold I was proven wrong and hooked no doubt to her rapturous account and visceral storytelling of a confused soul and in his search for meaning in his life by way of Anne’s prose and imagery. Soon I found myself on the same quest as Louis, hoping to find the meaning of the different facets of my life and equally in the search of one who can mentor me in these matters. Little did I know that apart from an existentialist influence on me, Anne’s play and confluence of words and symbolism was slowly cultivating and nurturing my love for writing and for the written word as well. And in yielding to this love, a brand new search has taken the place anew of one that now encompasses the myriad areas of philosophy, history, architecture, religion, aesthetics, and every other form of information that I can get my hands on. -source

I used to write like this, believe it or not. I’m not claiming to be better than them, I just saw myself several months ago.

I have to thank a certain person: my English Geek and editor, who took her time reading (and badmouthing) my work, correcting each sentence and grammatical error. I learned a lot from her, and would be glad to learn more if only things turned out differently.

Like the members of Anne Rice Philippines, I too was influenced by Anne Rice’s writing. Her weight on my writing style’s so heavy that my editor never failed to tell me that I wrote (and still write) like a girl. While it’s good to be descriptive and visual, big-fucking-words like the ones used above only confuse readers.

My take? Keep it simple. Use big-fucking-words only if it’s the exact right word for your sentence. You readers aren’t as smart as they claim to be. They don’t have a dictionary in their pockets either. What’s the point of confusing your market? bash bash bash

Oh and before I forget, I’ve been a fan of Vampires since the early 90’s. Anne Rice never led or introduced me to them. All she did was provide me a better description of them.

Disclaimer: I’m not a good writer. I’m just a writer. The reason why I blog is because I like writing. I’m glad someone taught me early on. Otherwise, I would still be writing like that *points above then LOL*.

To Anne Rice Philippines, take my advice:
1. Fix your website. It fucking sucks. It’s even blasphemous. Gads~
2. Edit the “Musings” part, you know what, while you’re at it, edit everything! Keep it simple.
3. Frames are so last century. Think of something new. You can afford hosting but you can’t afford to improve the layout and content? Rawr~
4. Your organization bears the name of a great writer. Have some decency and at least come up with content worth reading (don’t forget to check your grammar!)
5. Believe me, Coven of the Articulate is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay of a long shot.
6. If you can’t do anything about your web-ugly-site, then disband. You bring Shame to Anne Rice. Oh, if you don’t want to disband, just delete your website. It’s goddamn blasphemous.

Gads~

  3. "I can tell that you’re a perfect person with tastes and skills beyond measure. You must be very proud of what you can do. Your English teacher must be very proud of what you’ve become."

  4. actually, hindi ko pinatulan yung comment nya sa blog ko (http://asylum.ploghost.com/WP/?p=188#comments). i got pretty shocked when he wrote his blog entry. when i called him a "fucker" i meant it, but it's his territory, so later on, i said it was a joke. i really got pissed off and i didnt know how to react.

why can't some people have the decency to respect someone's happiness

    hindi naman tayo nagmamayabang
hindi naman tayo nagpapasikat re: the website

we know ourselves better than he does
better leave the person alone nalang

  6. As per Beng, sikat na tayo coz we have detractors....yun lang! :)
Much better now that when I first read the blog. Some people profess knowledge and yet have not the brains to check what they say before espousing such words he claims to be facts.

The "Coven of the Articulate" is what Anne calls her children or better yet what also Vittorio calls Lestat and his gang when he wrote his story. It is not a title we irresponsibly bestow on ourselves for vanity or wanton hubris as what others have indicated.

It is not our fault that we here are able to express our views intelligently and articulately. Pity the unenlightened trying to aspire for things far and way beyond their reach. For that they shall be in the dark forever with nary a glimmer of hope for salvation. That is my take and my curse.

A Vampire and Witch has been awakened at that...

I merely smile at his ignorance and at the wheels of justice turning and grinding his foul carcass to bits....blown away by the incoming gale ushering and announcing our arrival.

The Coven is here...and here...to stay.

Love ya guys. Thanks for being.

    So Mote It Be!!!

  8. it kinda hurts.. kc i see myself dun sa nagsulat na yun.. lahat nman tau d ba gustng maging expressive minsan at the same time creative.. kaya gumagamit tau ng malalalin na words.. haay.. im bad din sa grammar at nakakasar yung feeling magaling at binabara yung ibang gustong ma express yung sarili..

pero.. lesson na din kaya to.. buti na lang di ko na post ang mga pinagsusulat ko nun kundi pinagtatawanan na rin ako ngayon... natawa nga ako nung mabsa ko nung una.. pero.. its his way of expressing himself...

  10. he must've missed kindergarten my dear. you know the saying.. "everything you need to know, you learned in kindergarten."

  11. i think that's his very reason why we writes stuff like that. gusto sumikat. =)

  12. now i'm kinda in the middle of this.

i like the way you guys write, so i said i can't (i really won't) do anything with the writing. so, just be yourselves and continue writing those stuff. don't let a perfect person with tastes and skills are beyond measure be a hindrance. no perfect person exists, therefore, he doesn't exist. so, he shouldn't be a hindrance at all.

now, quoting him, "You readers aren’t as smart as they claim to be. They don’t have a dictionary in their pockets either." well, THEY probably do need dictionaries because their vocabulary is very, very limited.

Lynn, i admire you for your bravery. thanks for airing your thoughts. now, we're making hits in his blog. if only we could crash his site. hehehe

  13. and i admire you for all the efforts and sacrifices you've given. mahirap na trabaho ang magorganize ng group. it's heartbreaking and the rewards are sometimes too small to compensate for all the hardships. pero yun nga, we're passionate about it. so to hell with our detractors. they are actually helping to shine a little more light into our silent existence.

  14. we can't please everybody, my dear. if it makes you happy, by all means, do it. big words scare those with small brains.

    ReplyDelete
  15. his intelligence may have been too limited, thus, his insecurity obviously awakened.

    ReplyDelete
  16. yep, i agree. told you let him not be a hindrance. write if you want, if that's what'll make you feel better. ;) we're here to help you, not laugh at you like what that guy's good at.

    ReplyDelete
  17. yup.. and honestly.. been there, done that ako sa situation nung writer.. kasi i also wrote something na similar sa ginawa nya and then i got criticized badly.. so i guess.. the only difference is nagpadala ako dun sa mga wannabe critics.. when in fact.. the reason why they criticized me that way is that they are bitter because they dont have the strength to do what i did.. or the brain to write what i wrote.. and from now on i dont care if mali mali ako!!

actually.. parang idol ko na ang writer na yun!!.

  18. that'll be our good friend, Casey. he's multi-talented, and a great friend and keeper. he really didn't deserve what that bastard said about him.

oh well, what do you expect from a lower life form?

    ReplyDelete
  19. there are two ways you deliver criticisms, with or without respect. your works can be criticized negatively, but not really bad. it just means there are ways to improve your work, which will be helpful to you.
this guy who criticized how Caz or any in the group writes had no respect at all.
